Lake Whatcom Stormwater Utility

In December 2017, the Whatcom County Council established the Lake Whatcom Stormwater Utility Service Area to provide a mechanism to fund efforts to clean up and protect Lake Whatcom.  Existing funding sources are not sufficient to meet current and future Lake Whatcom program needs.  The Service Area includes the entire unincorporated Lake Whatcom watershed (see map below).

Advisory Committee

A citizen advisory committee will be established to provide recommendations to Whatcom County Council on rates and charges for the new Lake Whatcom stormwater utility.  For information on how to apply to serve on the advisory committee visit the Whatcom County Boards and Commissions page.  Click on "how to apply" for application directions and "vacancy list" then "Lake Whatcom Stormwater Utility Advisory Committee" for more information. Applicants must maintain a primary residence within the service area and be registered to vote in Whatcom County.  The application deadline has been extended until 10:00 a.m. May 1, 2018.  Appointments will be made at the May 8 County Council meeting.
