Birth and Death Records
Text Box: New!  Birth and Death Certificates can now be paid online through our website.  You must FAX the Application for Certified Copy of Birth or Death Certificate to 360-676-6771 in order to obtain your certificate.  FAX applications will be processed the following business day.

Applications received by 11:30 AM will be available by 2:00 PM, same business day.
Applications received after 11:30 AM will be available by 9:00 AM the following business day.
If you wish to have your certificates mailed to you, please let the front desk staff know when you place your order.

How Much Do Birth and Death Certificates Cost?

  • $20.00 each effective July 22, 2007.
  • Note: if we are unable to find your record, you will be charged an $8.00 fee for the search. The charge is per RCW 70.58.107.
  • We accept cash, debit or credit cards. There is a convenience fee of a minimum of $2.00 to a maximum of 2.35% on debit and credit card orders.

Certified birth certificates can be obtained from our Vital Records department for:

  • All Washington State births registered from July 1, 1907 to present.

What information is Needed to Obtain a Birth Certificate?

  1. Full Name of Child (First, Middle, Last)
  2. Birth date of child
  3. Place of birth
  4. Mother's maiden name
  5. Father's full name (if listed)

How Do You Obtain a Birth Certificate?

Certified death certificates may be obtained from Vital Records for people who died in Whatcom County from 1989 to present.
