Alan Chalfie is a senior deputy who has been with the office for almost 10 years. He began practicing criminal defense as a law student at the University of San Francisco where he interned at the Bayview-Hunter’s Point Community Defender. He also clerked during law school for the criminal division of the California Supreme Court.
From 1981 to 1994, Mr. Chalfie was a public defender in northern California where he tried approximately 80 jury trials. Following 10 years as a private criminal defense and dependency attorney, he resumed work as a public defender in Washington State.
Mr. Chalfie has many years’ experience handling and trying serious felony cases, including homicides and one death penalty case.
