Lummi Nation’s Data Greatly Increases County Vaccination Rate
BELLINGHAM, WA -- Lummi Tribal Health Center’s vaccination data is now entered into the Washington State Immunization Information System, adding over 4,700 vaccinated individuals to records for Whatcom County.
This data includes Whatcom County residents vaccinated by the Lummi Tribal Health Center’s community clinics, and significantly raises Whatcom County’s vaccination rate. Approximately 55.5% of all Whatcom residents, and 67% of Whatcom residents aged 16 and older, are now known to be vaccinated.
Lummi Nation, like other tribal governments, has received vaccine shipments directly from the federal government, separate from the state’s allotment. As a result, vaccination data from the Lummi Tribal Health Center wasn’t previously included in the Washington State Immunization Information System.
This data is expected to be included in DOH’s data dashboard in the coming days, possibly as soon as this evening. Further details about how this data changes local age, gender, race, ethnicity and sub-county area vaccination data will be available on the Whatcom County Health Department’s website and weekly vaccine update.
On May 13, Governor Inslee set a 70% statewide vaccine initiation benchmark for full reopening in Washington State before June 30. This influx of data brings Whatcom County much closer to hitting that target locally.
“The Lummi Nation has been an invaluable partner in our county’s vaccination efforts, sharing their vaccine supply with the broader Whatcom community, even when supplies were scarce,” said Erika Lautenbach, director of the Whatcom County Health Department. “And they continue to lend their supplies, staff and experience to community clinics throughout the county. Thank you, Lummi Nation, for all you continue to do to bring our county closer to reopening.”
