New Trail Maps and EMS Checkpoints Installed Throughout the Chuckanut Mountains

Local land management agencies and EMS providers are pleased to announce a new EMS Checkpoint and trail map system for the Chuckanut Mountains. This system will improve navigation for trail users and speed emergency response to lost or injured visitors.

Map kiosks and checkpoint signs have been installed at key trail intersections in the Chuckanut Mountains. The EMS checkpoint system also extends into Skagit County on the Department of Natural Resources' Blanchard Mountain Forest Block.

Additionally, trail maps for your mobile device are now available on the Whatcom County Parks & Recreation and Department of Natural Resources websites. These maps, available for free download, can be used with free mapping software to navigate in real-time from your smartphone.

Whatcom County Parks & Recreation, working with Washington State Parks, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Department of Natural Resources partnered with the Bellingham Fire Department, South Whatcom Fire Authority, and local trail stewardship groups to develop and install the EMS checkpoint signs and maps.
