What Are All Those Algae in the Bay? - Public Speaker Event, Birch Bay

The green layer of algae stretches far out into the tide flats and piles up on beaches where it contributes to unpleasant beach odors and purple sulfur bacteria growth.  Algae blooms are common and natural in coastal marine waters, but can become harmful when blooms are large and persistent.
